DeWitt County, Texas history lives in its original records—handwritten ledgers that documented justice, land ownership, railroads, and daily county government activity for more than a century. In this video, we take a closer look at rare DeWitt County volumes that were carefully preserved and digitized under the leadership of County Clerk Natalie Carson. This preservation project highlights the importance of safeguarding historic county records, court dockets, land records, railroad ledgers, and water rights documentation held by Texas county clerks. Revolution Data Systems provides archival preservation, digitization, and custom binding solutions designed to protect irreplaceable government records while maintaining long-term public access. The preserved records date from the late 1800s through the 20th century and include civil and criminal court dockets, fee books documenting the cost of justice, deputation records establishing legal authority, notary bond volumes, railroad right-of-way ledgers recording livestock loss, alien-owned land records, and decades of water rights documentation. Each volume reflects how county government touched everyday life—one name, one case, one entry at a time. Before preservation, these historic books showed significant wear from decades of handling, including brittle pages, edge damage, and weakened bindings. Each page was carefully stabilized, encapsulated in archival Mylar, rehoused in custom archival binders, and digitized to protect the originals while allowing continued access for research and reference. County clerks play a vital role in protecting local history, and this project reflects the stewardship and leadership of DeWitt County Clerk Natalie Carson. Through preservation and digitization, these records are now protected for the future while remaining accessible to the public. Revolution Data Systems specializes in archival preservation, digitization, and custom binding of historic government records across Texas and the United States. If your county or office is considering a preservation or digitization project, we would be honored to help.
