2026 02 01 [Where Failure Becomes Victory] 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Hymn 508 2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. (NIV) [Where Failure Becomes Victory 실패가 성공이 되는 지점] We believe God’s word, the Bible, only when we encounter Jesus within it. Otherwise, it is merely general knowledge derived from human books. The core of God's word, as highlighted in verse 19, is that Jesus died for us. This act appeased God’s anger against our sins and resulted in our reconciliation with God. Jesus can be known in these verses through a work of God's new creation. When we truly know Jesus as our personal Savior, we become God's new creations. As new creations, we live in this world with a nature and lifestyle distinct from "the Old" (verse 17). Reconciliation implies that God's work of wrath and grace is active in our daily life, rather than being a merely sentimental or political endeavor to achieve peace with others. The ministry of reconciliation (v. 18) applies to our social lives, guiding us to pursue peace. The message of reconciliation (v. 19) calls us to a continual awareness of God and our sins, even though we are already forgiven through the cross of Jesus. This foundational work is why we are described as a new creation, distinct from others (v. 17). In our practical lives, this divine work of wrath and grace continues. We strive to be peaceful, love our neighbors, and keep God's law, avoiding conflict and wars, yet our best efforts often fall short. God's word is so powerful that it compels us, as God's new creation, to accept that even in failure and despair, we are ultimately winners. This truth is our privilege, but it is sometimes painful to bear. Guhyun Woo —-------------------------------------- Prayer Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ in our lives. We are grateful that even when we feel we have failed, we are always winners through Him. Grant us the faith to know that you are always with us, in every situation we face, so that we may live confidently in this world until the day we see you in heaven. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. #LondonSeoulChurch #Rev_WooGuhyun #WooGuhyun #런던서울교회 #우구현목사
