In this video cast I interview psychotherapist Siobhan Chirico. She is a child and family therapist. We discuss her book, "Climbing Crisis Mountain: A Guided Picture Book for Managing Meltdowns and Challenging Behaviour." We talk about how parents can help their children develop flexibility, tolerance for frustration, and problem-solving skills. We talk about the work of Dr. Ross Greene and the Collaborative Problem-Solving (CPS) Approach. I put a video about the CPS approach in my posts if you want more information. We break down crisis into three stages and talk about how a parent can help at each stage. We talk about the two types of crisis. The first is kids who explode. The second is kids who withdraw. Both are a problem. Last, we talk about how to manage the use of technology for kids. For more information about children's mental health and access to the many articles that she has written check out Siobhan's website: www.climbingcrisismountain.com You can also access all of her social media there.
