Exploring young adulthood: Experiences for adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy (CP)

In this webinar Jackie presents the findings from her first PhD study, a qualitative research project aimed to explore the experiences of adolescents and young adults with CP as they participate in daily life across major areas of adulthood (including NDIS service access). The findings of this study describe how adolescents and young adults with CP may like to participate in adulthood, the elements of life that are of most importance, and the relationships and structures that can support them to participate as they desire. The young people in this study offer ideas and strategies that may assist health funding bodies, parents, friends, and carers to understand how to best support them during this important transitional period. Jackie delivered this award-winning presentation at the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia where she placed 3rd in the Early Careers Researcher category. Presentation by Jacqueline (Jackie) Ding from Murdoch Children's Research Institute on 22 May 2024. Jackie is a CP-Achieve PhD candidate at Monash University and a Project Officer at MCRI in the Centre for Community Child Health. Her PhD research focuses on understanding the experiences of young adults with cerebral palsy transitioning to adulthood and developing resources to support the transition.
