D213 'Andania's assault of the Lickey Incline with 'The Welsh Marches Whistler' | 3rd June 2021

Saphos Trains are the latest mainline tour promotor to be back in business post lockdown. Their preparations for the summer schedule in the south west began with a newly added tour to their annual itinerary. 'The Welsh Marches Whistler' acted as a positioning move for the LSL steam loco's that will be based at Bristol for taking charge of the steam charter season in the south west. Not only this, but it was a chance for LSL to show off their latest member of the mainline fleet, Class 40 D213 'Andania'. This would be the "whistlers" first tour post a major engine rebuild over the last three years or so. The tour started from Lancaster with steam taking over at Crewe for the run down the Welsh Marches route to Bristol, before D213 took over for the return to Lancaster via the famous Lickey Incline. We catch the 40 three quarters of the way into the 1 in 36 climb, before catching up with it again at Codsall heading for it's drop off point at Shrewsbury. Hope you enjoy!
