What if the religious, geographical, political and legal makeup of continental Europe looked completely different? What if the Islamic Empires of the 16th and 17th centuries succeeded in their attempts to conquer Europe? What if East was West and West was East? Through rigorous examination of the fluidity of centuries-long cultural interaction between the Islamic and Christian worlds, coupled with the use of illustrative case studies, this TEDx talk aims to demystify one of history’s most intriguing counter-factuals: the question of an Islamic Europe. Marysia is a student at Francis Holland School, Sloane Square, who plans to study Theology and Religion at university and pursue a career in either journalism, global governance and diplomacy or law. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
