Welcome to the second lecture in our mini-course on the Gibbs Phase Rule, part of the GNL Project's commitment to enriching education in physical chemistry. In this lecture, we extend our derivation of the Gibbs Phase Rule to a completely general case by incorporating chemical reactions. We build on the mathematical counting framework introduced in the first lecture to include these new constraints, ultimately deriving the fully general form of the Gibbs Phase Rule. This lecture is ideal for students and researchers interested in the rigorous treatment of phase equilibria, especially in systems involving reactive components.
