This provocative session will explore early evidence that defenders need to reset and re-tool to keep humans and humanity safe in an AI-enabled cyber age where attackers quickly deploy new AI technologies and methods at scale faster than we can create and implement a matching defensive posture. Given 80%+ of successful attacks resulting in a breach now engage some human factor (inattention, error, omission, social manipulation, exploitation, extortion, etc.), it is imperative that we consider a future where our tried-and-true technical defenses cannot prevail over attacker innovation at exploiting human vulnerabilities. To avoid potential economic, political and social ruin in the face of this imbalance, fear is our enemy and so researchers, organizations and citizens must all adapt and change the global cybersecurity conversation to raise awareness, find new best practices and improve defenses that offer us true hope and safety online. Dr. James Norrie is the founder and CEO of cyberconIQ, a company focused on reducing human-factor cyber risk by integrating security compliance with behavioral science. He is also a tenured professor of strategy, cybersecurity, and law at York College of Pennsylvania, and the former Founding Dean of the Graham School of Business there. Dr. Norrie holds terminal degrees in business and law, and graduate degrees in education, psychology, engineering, and cybersecurity. With over 30 years of experience in strategy, business management and cybersecurity, Dr. Norrie is a prominent figure in the field. He has authored six books, including "Cybercon – Protecting Ourselves from Big Tech and Bigger Lies," which explores his patented assessment for predicting personal cybersecurity risk profiles to promote greater personal security awareness, helping to keep the online world a safer place for us all. He is a frequent national media commentator, public speaker and expert panel member. He teaches and collaborates globally and is always interested in emerging technologies and their implications. Dr. Norrie’s latest research interests involve exploring the social and human implications of generative AI and increasing enterprise security in an AI-enabled world. Dr. Norrie is an advocate for shifting the global cybersecurity conversation from fear to hope, emphasizing the importance of human behavior in managing cyber risks. His ground-breaking work at cyberconIQ aims to create a cybersecurity-conscious, security-first culture within organizations by focusing on education and personalized risk management techniques rather than technical training.
