The Qianfo Temple in Nan'an District, Chongqing is located in the core area of Nanbin Road, adjacent to the Bell Tower Square and Ciyun Temple. It is one of the best viewing spots for the prosperous scenes of Yuzhong Peninsula and Jiangbeizui. The temple was originally built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566). Its initial name was "Dacheng Temple". In the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed "Xinglong Temple". Due to the worship of a thousand gilded bronze Buddhas of the Ming Dynasty on both sides of the main hall, it was named "Qianfo Temple" during the Republic of China period. Its architecture is built along the mountain, combining the cornices and brackets in Ming and Qing styles with modern glazed tiles. The main body includes the Shanmen Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Wanfo Hall, etc. Among them, the Wanfo Hall enshrines 1008 gilded bronze Buddhas, implying "the protection of a thousand Buddhas", and it is one of the largest existing Wanfo Halls in Chongqing. As one of the only four ancient temples remaining in Chongqing, the Qianfo Temple has witnessed the integrated coexistence of Buddhist and Taoist cultures. There are existing cultural relics such as column bases of the Ming Dynasty and iron chimes of the Qing Dynasty in the temple. The plaque of the Yaowang Hall is made from the original temple beams, carrying more than 400 years of historical memory. In modern times, after experiencing wars and industrial renovations, the reconstruction was started in 2003 and officially opened to the public in 2006. The reconstruction project has retained the traditional layout of "temple in the front and garden in the back", while integrating modern religious and cultural elements.
