The Helmstead: A video series chronicling the complete restoration and rebuilding of an original 1850's Pioneer Log Cabin in rural Alabama. In episode 3, we continue with our project to move and restore a mid-nineteenth century log cabin in Alabama. After removing the roof, we are finally ready to begin dismantling the primary structure of interlocking logs - many of which weigh several hundred pounds. Thanks to Jorge's skill with a rope and slip knots, we were able to carefully lower the couple rows of top logs before setting up some "ramps" of 2x4s to begin rolling off the lower logs (especially the ones on the front and back where we had more room to work). Next, we need to finish designing and prepping the new cabin site where we will be transporting all of the materials in order to rebuild.
