Day 11 in Iceland — the Diamond Circle Road Trip! Join us as we explore one of North Iceland’s most breathtaking routes — the Diamond Circle, a less-crowded alternative to the Golden Circle, filled with raw nature and dramatic landscapes. Our day starts in Akureyri, known as the “Capital of the North.” After fueling up with Iceland’s famous gas station pylsa hot dogs, we begin the scenic 1 hour 45-minute drive toward Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Along the way, the ever-changing landscapes keep us captivated — from green valleys to black lava fields and the steaming geothermal plains of Hverir. We visit: Dettifoss & Selfoss Waterfalls – where the mighty Jökulsá á Fjöllum river crashes into the canyon. Viti Crater – a turquoise volcanic lake formed by ancient eruptions. Hverir Geothermal Area – with bubbling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, and colorful mineral fields. Vogafjós Farm Resort’s Restaurant – where we enjoy a cozy meal surrounded by cows and warm Icelandic charm. Lake Mývatn & Skútustaðir – home to lava formations, pseudo craters, and volcanic beauty. Godafoss Waterfall – the stunning “Waterfall of the Gods,” before heading back to our Airbnb in Akureyri for the night.
