In this episode, Dr. Horne and I focus on his 2021 book The Bittersweet Science: Racism, Racketeering, and the Political Economy of Boxing. Dr. Horne discusses the history of boxing, slavery, settler colonialism, white supremacy, as well as masculinity, race, the fluidity of whiteness, and corruption in the context of the sport of boxing. Dr. Horne also offers an analysis of Chuck Schumer's recent speech, the Zionist lobby, the war on the people of Gaza, the rise of Saudi Arabia as the new capital of boxing, and the spectacle and predominace of MMA.
