Prioritising programme theories: what is the role for Q-methodology in realist approaches?

Lisa will discuss the findings from a recently completed realist project that was designed to explore how supported self-management is implemented across community stroke rehabilitation settings, for whom it works and under what circumstances. The project employed the use of Q-methodology early on in the development of programme theories. This was partially to understand more about what was important to different stakeholders in implementing supported self-management but also to help prioritise and better articulate the ideas underpinning the initial programme theories. Lisa will draw on our experiences and the challenges of using Q-methodology to understand it’s role in, and contribution to, realist approaches.8
