The central government has told the Karnataka High Court of an urgent need for regulation in the digital space. This statement was made during the hearing of a case involving 'X', formerly known as Twitter, regarding content takedown directives. The government submitted that regulation is necessary due to constant surveillance by social media platforms, rising cybercrime, and an evolving threat landscape. In the ongoing case, the government has accused 'X' of attempting to evade accountability for unlawful content under the 'safe harbour' protection of the IT Act. The Centre also questioned the social media company's standing to approach an Indian High Court for the protection of fundamental law, arguing that such protections are for individuals and not platforms. #socialmedia #regulation #karnatakahighcourt #itwebvideos #Indiatoday #contenttakedown #itact #x #twitter #cybersecurity #freespeech #digitalindia #censorship #techpolicy #govtvssocialmedia #dataprivacy #onlinesafety Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
