This is the lesser-know sibling of the more famous Fokker D.VII. Initially built alongside the D.VII, this version had only 59 examples completed before production was halted in favour of concentrating on the Fokker D.VII. It was something of an interim design, given that it had the fuselage and tail of the Fokker Dr.I triplane and smaller versions of the D.VII's wings. It was an agile aircraft to fly, though, and could outpace the D.VII at lower altitudes. Most examples were used as home-defence fighters in quieter areas of the western front in the closing stages of WW1, or in training units. This particular model has been finished in the markings of Jasta 80b on the western front during the summer of 1918. At first, it was flown by Lt. Erwin Wenig, but when Lt.d.Reserve Josef Filbig joined the unit, he used the aircraft as his own and the black area of the fuselage was repainted blue. The colour profiles available online offer contradictory details regarding the colour of the horizontal tail, and contemporary photos from the time do not provide sufficient detail to make an educated guess - lozenge pattern or a blue-painted tail, so I elected to finish the model with the latter option. ________________ All materials used in the completion of this kit were purchased using my own funds, and I was not sponsored to undertake the work. ________________ The music tracks included in this video are from Epidemic sound, and are: Beyond Rivers and Dust - Alec Slayne Far Over the Top - Christopher Moe Ditlevsen Imaginators - Jay Varton Cause for Concern - Howard Harper-Barnes The Gril from North - Magnus Ludvigsson Automatic Numbers - August Wilhelmsson Did We Do Everything - Alec Slayne Alteration - Karoliina Gabel Heros Hand 5 - August Wilhelmsson Chariots - Gavin Luke Sciophonia - Jo Wandrini Nevertheless She Persisted - Bonnie Grace This video was made using Capcut.
