Scripture: Psalm 51- When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. “1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 FOR I KNOW MY TRANSGRESSIONS, and my sin is always before me.4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place. 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. 10 CREATE IN ME A PURE HEART, O GOD, AND RENEW A STEADFAST SPIRIT WITHIN ME. 11 DO NOT CAST ME FROM YOUR PRESENCE OR TAKE YOUR HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME. 12 RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF YOUR SALVATION AND GRANT ME A WILLING SPIRIT, TO SUSTAIN ME. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, ou who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.16 YOU DO NOT DELIGHT IN SACRIFICE, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.17 MY SACRIFICE, O GOD, IS A BROKEN SPIRIT; A BROKEN AND CONTRITE HEART YOU, GOD, WILL NOT DESPISE. 18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.” Elabotations: Almost every public proclamation of the gospel recorded in the New Testament includes a call to repentance (Matthew 3:8; Mark 1:14-15; Acts 2:38; 17:30). Matthew 3:8: Matthew 3:8-9 NIV “8 PRODUCE FRUIT IN KEEPING WITH REPENTANCE. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.” In the Bible, when we see true repentance take place between people and God we also see forgiveness take place. So here, we’re going to address the meaning of repentance and forgiveness together. The Hebrew word for repentance is teshuvah. It means to return or turn around; to go back to what you have strayed from. Repentance is the act of turning from disobedience to God to intentional obedience. IT CAN ALSO BE DESCRIBED AS TURNING FROM WHAT IS WRONG TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. OR TURNING FROM OUR OWN WAYS TO DO THINGS GOD’S WAY. REPENTANCE IS A DECISION THAT STARTS IN THE HEART AND MIND AND EXTENDS INTO OUR ACTIONS. FORGIVENESS IS THE SIMPLE DECISION TO NOT ALLOW SOMEONE’S ACTIONS TOWARDS YOU TO KEEP YOU FROM LOVING LIKE GOD LOVED US. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God loved us while we were sinners, while we opposed Him, with perfect and unconditional love. We aren’t by any means perfect – but one way God asks us to extend this love to people is by forgiving them when they sin against us. WHEN WE ARE TRULY REPENTANT, GOD IS QUICK TO FORGIVE US. Will you follow Jesus today? Where will you spend eternity? Are you ready for Heaven? Do you believe in Jesus and have you repented of your sins? Have you allowed Him into your daily life and asked Him to continually transform you daily into the man or woman He wants you to be? If you can answer yes to these questions, you can rest assured that you will be with Jesus in Heaven when you pass from this life to the next. We don’t know what Heaven holds exactly, but if we truly trust God, we can trust that when he says it is paradise, it’s paradise. Don’t waste your time worrying about dying. Instead, spend your time living for Christ. The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV). God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says; “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB). Are you ready to trust God to fulfill His promise of eternal life? You’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. But you must believe in Jesus and receive Him as your Lord and Savior. Are you ready? Start by praying this simple prayer: ....
