Welcome to 'ricksworld' A UK based artist on the South Coast of Britian check out my website: https://www.ricksworld.uk ✒️ Darkwood Sketchbook Session | Inking a Character Illustration from Coffee Shop Inspiration In today’s session, I return to my Darkwood series of drawings, settling into the studio on a gloomy day with a coffee and an idea pulled straight from real life. This piece began as a quick pencil sketch inspired by a morning in a local coffee shop, where an aggressive, muzzled dog sparked a strange narrative idea. Instead of drawing the dog, I imagined a human character wearing a muzzle — locked in place — and asked the question: why? In this video, I work through the inking stage of the drawing, focusing on: Translating a loose pencil sketch into ink Constructing a three-dimensional muzzle using straps, curves and shadow Thinking about form, light direction and depth Developing facial features beneath the mask Shading techniques, line weight, stippling and cross-hatching Working intuitively and refining lines over time You’ll see how the drawing slowly evolves as I balance storytelling, anatomy and texture, and why I often leave parts unresolved to revisit later once the whole image comes together. This is a quiet, honest look at my drawing process — the false starts, adjustments, and long hours that go into a single illustration in the Darkwood world.
