Playlist of my R.O.W.E runs: • R.O.W.E. Enough time has passed since my last run of this. I didn't feel like immediately jumping into another monotype run because the previous one took so long. The big reason for that was how tedious it was to grind Trainer Skills. This latest version has cut down on that grinding, but it's still there. I had to effectively stop the progression at some points to grind. The longest break was 15 badges in. I kept coming up short with Chuck. As I played the hack, I gradually increased the IV boosts for Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. Eventually I stopped to grind and max out the Trainer Skills for all the stats. But then I was still not dominating battles. That's when EVs became so important, and I had to stop and grind Trainer Skills for that. The first big grind was for the Experience Boost Trainer Skill. The grind for that was ridiculous, 20 points to level up. Admittedly, I skipped a lot of trainers and tried to get to the Gym Leaders as quickly as possible. When I did my late-game grinding session, I battled through loads of optional trainers. This included clearing some sea routes and Trick House trainers. Before that, I did a lot of mock battles, but that got so monotonous. I always pick the Grindless Mode option. Man, that needs to be renamed, because there's still a need to grind for the Trainer Skills. It's night and day when those stat and EV Trainer Skills are maxed out. I think the video shows that, specifically with Chuck, the Gym Leader rematches, and the E4. Unlike previous runs, I did the Gym Leader rematches before the E4. I don't think there's much of a difference in teams between the E4 split and the post-E4 split. As far as the monotype itself, it was okay. I was concerned when the monotype was selected, but I eventually found the MVPs of the the run. Aerodactyl and H-Arcanine were among my most used mons. Magcargo was a major surprise. This hack has an ability called Evaporate, which grants immunity against Water-types. Coalossal and Magcargo got that, making it amazing against Water-types. Magcargo also gets Simple and Shell Smash, allowing it to get +4 from one boost and sweep. Unfortunately the Megas came so late. The Aerodactylite came from restoring an Old Amber. My starter was an Aerodactyl, but it didn't have the Mega Stone. I had to save scum for an Old Amber via the random fossil in the underground passage. Coalossal gets a Mega Evolution here. It has Evaporate, but I didn't know where the Mega Stone was. When I did, it was way too late in the run. It's in Mt. Ember, requiring the ability to smash rocks and move boulders to access it. None of the Rock-type Legendaries are available before the E4. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but this meant no Mega Diancie or Terrakion. I don't think Iron Thorns or Iron Boulder are in the hack. It felt like my selection was very limited, but then again, I just didn't feel like using mons like Golem, more fossils beyond the ones I have, and others. The fossil mons required a lot of save scumming through smashable rocks and the underground passage. I tried Wonder Trading at some points, that cuts down on some of the time. Now, one huge snub in this run is Kleavor. H-Avalugg doesn't count because unfortunately, it doesn't have the buffs that Radical Red gave it. It's not worth using here. Kleavor would've been great though, but I couldn't obtain it. Recently, this hack added a Monotype setting, which makes it so that the player can only catch and use the mons of that type, with no exceptions. Not even for mons that evolve into Rock-types. This meant I couldn't obtain Scyther. I didn't get a Slugma, I had to wait until the level cap was high enough to where I could find Magcargo in the wild. This wound up being a huge mistake because Kleavor's not in the wild. If you try to search for Scyther and the level cap is past a certain point, you will only find that and Scizor. I think this also applies to Bergmite where you'll find Avalugg, but not H-Avalugg. So I couldn't obtain H-Avalugg if I wanted to. I would check as the level cap increased, I tried Wonder Trading, but no Kleavor! So yeah, that sucked, I'm not touching that Monotype setting again. I would've also benefited from having strong non-Rock-types that would make Trainer Skill grinding quicker. I think that points to this hack needing some more updates. Maybe others are not bothered, but I was. Also some E4 teams had duplicate mons, which was weird. I'll definitely play this hack again. I haven't tried New Game Plus, that might alleviate Trainer Skill grinding. Surprisingly, I had a lot to say about this run, the time stamps will have to be in a pinned comment. The music's from Shin Megami Tensei 5. Enjoy the video.
