Get the hack here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads... This is an Emerald decomp hack. It seemed like a chill hack to play, but I still wanted to do the usual things that make things a little more difficult. This mainly includes using only 3 mons. This hack is more or less a GBA version of GSC/HGSS. That extends to the roster of mons and distribution. As such, I needed to use the starter randomizer setting to get a Fairy-type in the beginning. That mon happened to be Mawile. There are loads of options at the start of the run. The settings I used for the run include a "Normal" level cap, scaled EVs for trainers, perfect IVs for me and the AI. It turned out that settings don't matter when the AI is pretty dumb and the movesets are not highly competitive. It increasingly became a breeze as I got some strong Fairy-types. I didn't have many options, but I guess I didn't need many. For the Kanto part of the run, Ralts became available, and I just wanted to use Gardevoir for the sake of variety. I like the little things this hack did. There's an option to have wild mons drop their held items, making it unnecessary to use Thief, just KO the wild mons. The map designs are great, this is one of the best-looking Johto adaptations on a GBA hack. The sheer amount of options to customize a run is impressive. In hindsight, I could've randomized encounters and potentially get Fairy-types earlier. Johto pretty much follows the original games, so without the starter randomizer, I wouldn't even have access to Mawile until the postgame. Kanto opens the door for Gen 3 mons. There are cross-gen evolutions, but no regional variants, meaning that I couldn't use A-Ninetails. Some minor gripes. Prices are too high for certain QoL features, such as nature mints. You can't change abilities until the postgame, and that's also expensive. The move relearner is too late in my opinion, Blackthorn City. These gripes are minor mainly because the difficulty's so low that you don't truly need optimal mons. I thought money would be an issue, but there are decent methods to farm money. That farming period was brief too. I guess not needing to use many mons contributed to that. This isn't a difficulty hack, so it's not worth complaining a lot about how QoL features are implemented. It was a nice time overall, and I would play it again, especially since there's going to be a huge 2.0 update. The music's from Grandia.
