ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー The trip to Aomori, Okutsugaru, and Kanita was the best ever with gourmet food and breathtaking scenery! 【Sightseeing・Hidden Gems】okutsugaru aomori, japan ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー Sponsored by: Aomori Prefecture Since travel is an investment in oneself, I’m introducing a trip this time to a place in Aomori that few people visit but everyone should go at least once in their life: Okutsugaru and Kanita! This journey captivated my heart with incredible gourmet food and stunning landscapes, ranking high among my favorite domestic trips. The areas of Takanozaki, Tairadate, and Kanita, located in the Okutsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture, are charming locations rich in natural beauty and historical depth. These areas are part of the town of Sotogahama, which has a population of about 5,000. The Kanita area has long thrived as the gateway to the Tsugaru Peninsula, and during the Edo period, it served as a key port for Kitamaebune cargo ships. Tairadate was used by the Matsumae Domain as a route for their sankin-kōtai processions and is home to the remains of the Tairadate Battery, which was built to counter foreign ship intrusions. The region is known for its abundant and fresh seafood. In particular, scallops and tuna caught in the Tsugaru Strait are absolutely delicious. Though there aren’t many restaurants, each one is beloved by both locals and tourists—every spot is worth visiting. To get around comfortably, you can use the shared taxi service “Wan-Taku” from Okutsugaru-Imabetsu Station. I made full use of the Wan-Taku regular and free services during this trip. “Wan-Taku” is a shared taxi service operating in the Tsugaru area of Aomori Prefecture. Fare: Regardless of distance, the fare is 500 yen per ride for junior high school students and older. For children, people with disabilities, those aged 75 and over, people who have surrendered their driver’s license, JR discount ticket or pass holders that include the Tsugaru Line north of Kanita, and My Number card holders residing in Imabetsu or Sotogahama, the fare is 300 yen. The “Wan-Taku Free Service” is available in designated areas within the Tsugaru region. Reservations are required in advance. Online reservations are available 24/7, from one week before to the day before your ride. Phone reservations are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and can be made until 60 minutes before departure. Accepted payment methods include cash, IC cards like Suica, credit cards, and QR code payments. This is a hidden gem every adult should visit at least once in their life!
