Learn more about the Fab Educators Summit at www.eduFAB.org Details about this session at Fab Educators Summit 2026: Presented by: Lori Stahl-Van Brackle, West Hempstead Secondary School, New York, USA Session Title Using the Design Process to Frame Projects Connecting projects to real-world experiences gives student work purpose, and grounding those projects in the design process helps develop creative thinking skills. In this session, participants explore the design process through a Mini Hack-a-thon project, the Halloween/Bike Safety Badge, examining how the steps Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test and Improve, and Share Out support intentional project development. Participants will walk through how this project evolved through multiple iterations and see how breaking the process into clear, deliberate steps helps students better understand design thinking and articulate their ideas. The session highlights practical classroom tools, including Google Slides, Sites, and Forms, along with Tinkercad and Canva, while demonstrating how the design process can be applied to a wide range of project-based learning experiences.
