Graduation Day for the Spice Girls Four months ago, I saw two kittens covered in filth on a rescue site. I was out of town, unable to rescue them. I prayed that another rescue group would save them, but the girls remained in the high-risk shelter. I sent out a desperate plea, and two strangers stepped up. Amelia offered to drive to the shelter, get them out, and keep them overnight. Kim volunteered to pick them up from Amelia, then drive 5 hours to bring them to me. In the shelter, the girls weren't eating and were covered in poop from having a serious case of coccidia. Their first bath revealed stunning faces and gorgeous markings. We named them Cinnamon and Nutmeg, together known as "the Spice Girls". Despite their illnesses, they never slowed down, always having fun. They were in isolation for several weeks, but when they came out of it, they acted like they had known Phoebe and GB forever. Even BB got comfortable enough. I received several wonderful applications (Thank you!). When choosing a family for my fosters, I always go with my gut feeling in the end. It took a little longer for them to be adopted, but we wanted to make sure we covered everything on our end and their end, so the transition would be as smooth as possible. The new family prepared their home to welcome the girls, even making chicken soup after watching my recipe video. When she sent me pictures of her separating fat, bones, meat, and broth just like I do, I was even more certain I picked the right people. They shipped a carrier, tags, and new collars to me so that I could get them used to them before the trip. They flew in the day before, met the girls, then adopted them the next day. Having them meet twice before the final trip really helped the girls feel more comfortable. The trip went better than we all expected. The best part of this adoption for me was watching their son meet the girls for the first time. He had been wanting a cat for a long time, and now he has two that will be his best friends forever. I thrive on watching and hearing how my kittens make adopters happy and how happy the kittens are. Hours of work: cleaning, medicating, driving to the vets, feeding, and training... all worth it in the end. This is why we foster. Happy new beginning Spice Girls! P.S. I also have a feeling that GB will get to see the girls again in the future.
