The piano playing in this song runs the gamut from eloquent and beautifully mesmerizing to powerful and majestic. It might bring tears to your eyes! It caught the attention of Reggie Dwight, an employee at London's Musicland (better known as Elton John), who played it for Joe Cocker and his tour manager Peter Nicholls in June 1969, saying the arrangements and piano playing were absolutely stunning! From their album Accept No Substitute - The Original Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, here is "Do Right Woman." This album should be in any music lover's collection! Written by Chips Moman and Dan Penn, "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" was one of Aretha Franklin's great songs. Her recording of it was the title track of her 1967 album and was used as the flipside of her first Top Ten single, "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)." Until that record, Aretha hadn't hit the Top 40 since 1961, but for the next five years she racked up an amazing thirty Top Forty hits. Delaney Bramlett produced his and Bonnie's album, backed by some incredible players. Leon Russell and Delaney did the arrangements. Jim Price was the brass instrumentalist with Bobby Keys on sax. Guitarists were Delaney, Bonnie, Jerry McGee and Leon. Jim Keltner was on drums with Carl Radle handling the bass. Bobby Whitlock was the organist, and background vocalists included Rita Coolidge, Bonnie, Delaney and Bobby Whitlock. The string arrangements were by Jimmie Haskell.
