Sliding Filament Theory | 5 Things You Need to Know + Pop Quiz

Follow me on Instagram:   / themovementsystem   5 Things You Need to Know About the Sliding Filament Theory: 1. Calcium Release initiates and regulates the process of muscle contraction within the muscle cell 2. Troponin pulls the tropomyosin out of the way to allow the cross bridge to form 3. Myosin binds to Actin (cross bridge) 4. H band and I band shorten 5. A Band Stays the Same Length What is the Sliding Filament Theory? The mechanism that allows a muscle to contract. Myosin binds to actin via cross bridges and the power stroke of the myosin head brings the z discs together shortening the sarcomere. What does calcium do in the muscle cell? Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and binds to troponin to move the tropomyosin. This exposes the binding site on actin for the myosin head to form a cross bridge. What does the sarcoplasmic reticulum do? For the process of muscle contraction, the sarcoplasmic reticulum stores calcium and releases it into the muscle cell when an action potential propagates down the sarcolemma and into the T tubule. 👇🏽Click here to Join the Strength and Conditioning Study Group on Facebook!   / 2415992685342170   Studying for the CSCS Exam?
