Oma's Schinkennudeln (Ham and Noodles) 1 cured and precooked ham steak 1 pkg of egg noodles 1 1/2 cups onion, chopped 1 tbsp all purpose flour 1 1/2 tbsp salt, additional to taste ground black pepper to taste 1 tbsp oil Typically, eggs or cheese are added to this recipe, however my Oma used flour to create a sauce from the water that leaked from the ham during cooking. Prep all of the ingredients first. Chop the onion and cube the ham into equal size pieces. In a large pot, bring the water to boil along with a tablespoon of salt. Whne the water boils, add the noodles. When the water comes back to a boil, heat a pan and when hot cook the onions for one minute. Add the ham cubes after the onion has cooked for a minute and stir to combine the two. When the ham begins to leak it water, add the flour and stir well until the water turns into a sauce. By this time the noodles should be done, but still firm. Add the noodles to the pan in batches, stirring to combine the ingredients. When all of the noodles are added, add the pepper and stir it in. Serve.
