The inspiration for the song came from a conversation Paul McCartney had with a chauffeur. When McCartney asked the chauffeur how he was doing, the chauffeur replied, “Oh, I’ve been working eight days a week!” McCartney found this response intriguing and thought it perfectly captured the dedication and hard work the band was putting into their music career. McCartney brought the idea to John Lennon, and together they developed the song. It was one of the first songs they recorded that started with a fade-in, which was quite innovative at the time.
