Ochlocknee blueberry is one of the best rabbiteye blueberries for Zone 8A and the Southeast. In this video, we explain why it thrives in hot, humid climates and share the best pollinators to maximize yield and fruit quality. 🌱 Why Choose Ochlocknee Blueberry? Ochlocknee is a late-season rabbiteye blueberry that excels in hot, humid climates like the Southeast. It’s a great option for backyard growers and small farms alike because it offers: • Excellent performance in Zone 8A • High chill tolerance for a rabbiteye (~650 hours) • Large, firm berries with good flavor • Strong plant vigor and reliability • Late ripening—great for extending your harvest window 🐝 Best Pollinators for Ochlocknee For strong fruit set, Ochlocknee needs cross-pollination from other rabbiteye varieties with overlapping bloom times. Good pollinator options include: • Brightwell – One of the most reliable and commonly paired pollinators • Powderblue – Excellent overlap and late-season performance • Premier – Earlier bloom but still useful in mixed plantings • Tifblue – Classic rabbiteye with solid compatibility Planting at least two different rabbiteye varieties will significantly improve berry size, yield, and consistency. We have 3 of the 4 of these planted in our blueberry orchard. (Brightwell is the only variety recommend that we do not have.)
