Raised by White Supremacists in Rhodesia, Alexandra talks about the ways in which racism becomes enmeshed in children and the task of their adult self to undo. This is a story about her lifelong attempt at self-liberation and the difficult, rewarding work of raising socially-conscious children in a system of racial capitalism. Alexandra Fuller was born in the UK in 1969, and raised in Rhodesia during that country’s Bush War. She’s the author of several books; most recently QUIET UNTIL THE THAW. Her work has appeared in a wide range of publications including National Geographic Magazine, Harper’s Magazine and the New Yorker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
