What mistakes must you avoid when speaking with a doctor recommended by your employer after your work injury? Under Georgia law, your employer (and their insurance company) have the right to send you to a physician of their choice to treat your on the job injury. These doctors are called "posted panel" doctors because your employer is supposed to provide you with a list of doctors from which you can choose one to begin treatment (if you have not yet chosen a doctor, call me - I can offer guidance in this regard). At your first appointment with the posted panel doctor you need to be prepared for a different type of medical appointment. As I discuss in this video, posted panel doctors often get most of their business from insurance companies and their treatment will reflect the interests of the insurance company. In fact it is a safe bet to assume that the insurance adjuster has been on the phone with the doctor before you arrive. --They will try to avoid taking you out of work. --They will try to limit the body parts they treat. --They will try to avoid sending you out for expensive diagnostic tests like MRIs or referring you to a specialist Unfortunately you cannot assume that the posted panel doctor has your best interests at heart and you need to prepare accordingly. In this video I walk you through how to prepare for your first visit and what you must do to stand up for yourself, and, more importantly, what written documentation you must have in your hand when you leave the appointment. If you would like specific advice about how to best interact with your posted panel doctor please call me. I do not charge for phone calls and I am here to help you.
