In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll guide you through my experience with changing the rear differential fluid on my 2018 Subaru Forester. This applies to all Subaru Foresters, specifically 2014 to 2018 years where it will look like mine. We’ll start by gathering all necessary tools and materials, including the correct fluid, drain pan, and socket and bits. I'll point out where the filler plug and drain plug are, then drain the old fluid by removing the drain plug with a breaker bar. Once it's completely drained, we’ll reinstall the drain plug and fill the differential with new fluid until it reaches the proper level. In this tutorial, I show what crush washer, provide the subaru oem part number, and gear oil type.
