A bit of reflection today. With the marathon in April getting closer, I’m realising something important: to hit my goals, I’m going to have to be a little selfish over the next few months. Not with my family — that’s easy to manage. I can wake up earlier, adjust sessions, and make sure that side of my life doesn’t suffer. But I will need to be more selfish with my running time. I set up the running group, and I genuinely love it — the community, the friendships, the consistency it brings. But on longer runs where I need to really test myself, the pace is simply too slow for where my marathon training needs to be right now. That’s nobody’s fault — it’s just reality. So I’m going to take a proper look at my regime and find a better balance: supporting the group, while also carving out time to run alone at the pace this goal demands. And if I’m honest, the marathon is starting to feel a bit daunting now. April suddenly feels very close. But that’s not a bad thing. Pressure is a signal — it means the goal matters. This is the phase where you stop drifting and start making deliberate choices. It won’t be perfect, but it will be intentional. If you’re chasing a goal that requires tough trade-offs, you’re not alone. Like and subscribe if you’re following the journey to April.
