The Flying Cloud was one of several “liner” models that Airstream produced in the 1950s, ranging in size from 15 feet to 32 feet. The Flying Cloud has two single beds in back, with a wardrobe and kitchen in the middle of the trailer, and a pullout dinette in the front; the front doubles as a living room for entertaining, or dining area for eating. One of the (very) rare features of this trailer is that it is a fifteen panel trailer. Most of the Airstream trailers coming out of the factory at that time were thirteen panel. It is not known how many trailers were built with fifteen panels, but what is known is the factory produced 55 trailers in this size that year and most of those were thirteen panel. The fact this one is fifteen panel makes it super rare and you may never see another one in the wild! I rescued this trailer in August of 2022. It had been living outside, under a makeshift cover, for over a decade. Its skin was gray and ashen, with dirt and grime deeply imbedded into the skin. The interior was in good shape (the makeshift cover kept the rain away, so no interior leaks) but required a refresh. I had the exterior professionally polished to a mirror shine and reworked the interior to a 1950s cowboy theme. The cowboy theme extends to the curtains, pillows, mattresses, and motif correct accessories. It tows easily and is a head turner wherever I roam. When not on the road, it lives in covered storage in Ventura County, CA.
