The Great Lakes region is full of valuable resources and contains a huge portion of fresh water. Along the shores of the great lakes are huge deposits of precious minerals. Gold, uranium, copper, and silver are some of the metals that can be found in the Canadian Shield Rock near Lake Huron and Lake Superior. Lake Superior is massive, with a shoreline stretching for hundreds of kilometers. There are old mines left behind by prospectors searching the shore in search of minerals like gold and silver. A massive discovery was made near Marathon Ontario of a hard rock gold deposit. This deposit is worth billions in value and boosts the local economy. The Hemlo Gold mine was found by prospectors at the side of the highway. People were skeptical of the find, but it turned out to be a massive deposit. Gold mining operations commenced, and the region has experienced a modern gold rush with a surge in prospecting and new gold claims. This region is full of mineral riches waiting to be discovered.
