What does it take to walk into a boardroom that doesn’t expect you, and refuse to leave regardless? After the sudden loss of her husband, Dr. Maggie Kigozi entered a male-dominated manufacturing business not as a trained executive, but as a physician determined to protect her family’s future. Armed with nothing but a Will, humility, and relentless courage, she chose not to retreat, but to learn. In this deeply personal and powerful talk, Maggie explores the four forms of audacity that shaped her life: the audacity to begin, to learn, to lead, and ultimately to let go. From scaling Pepsi production in Uganda from five million to one hundred million crates, to serving as Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority for over a decade, her journey reflects the intersection of private enterprise and national transformation. This talk is a masterclass in fearless reinvention; and a reminder that leadership is often claimed before it feels earned. Dr. Maggie Kigozi is Director of Crown Beverages Limited (Pepsi Uganda) and former CEO of the Uganda Investment Authority. Widely known as “Mama wa Afrika,” she has championed investment, women in business, enterprise, and generational leadership across the continent. Dr. Maggie Kigozi is one of Africa’s most respected business stateswomen — a physician-turned-investment architect who helped shape Uganda’s modern economic story. As former Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority, she positioned Uganda as a competitive global investment destination, catalyzing foreign direct investment and strengthening private sector growth during a pivotal era of reform. A Director at Crown Beverages Limited (Pepsi Uganda), she has bridged multinational corporate leadership with national development. Revered as “Mama wa Afrika,” she is a mentor, policy influencer, and advocate for women and youth entrepreneurship across the continent. Dr. Kigozi embodies strategic leadership with heart — proving that economic growth and human empowerment can, and must, move together.
