Welcome Back. Unfortunately, we were not able to make it down for week 3 so we were more than ready to get back on the water. The weather and water temps were, for the most part, the same as they have been. Nevertheless, we knew exactly where we were going and how we were going to fish them On the first day we headed back to the same spot west of the Huron River. We fired up the LiveScope and Active Target with high hopes of getting on some good fish. However, the walleye seemed to have other plans and avoided us for the first couple of hours. Finally, we spotted a good fish on Amber's Livescope and she made an accurate cast and the fish couldn't resist. She wasn't certain at first if it was a walleye but when she finally was able to get it up towards the surface we saw it was definitely a good walleye. We managed to successfully net it and get it in the boat. We were pretty ecstatic and knew immediately we needed to get the scale out. With the waves it was pretty hard to get an accurate weight but it ranged between the upper 8's to over 9.5 lbs. We knew this one was going to the weigh station. We were going to wait until that afternoon to go weigh it but Tony and Tandy Ooten convinced us otherwise and offered to watch our boat while we took it to Central Basin Bait and Tackle. The official weight was 9.13 lbs and 28.5" long. This was good enough to put Amber on top of the Women's Division. With spirits high we headed back to the boat and right back to our same spot. Needless to say, the rest of the day was a slam fest. We caught several nice Walleye between the 5-7 lb mark. Once again the Kalin's 3/8 oz Google Eye Jig and the Berkley 1/2 oz Thin Fisher were the hot baits. On the 2nd day we weren't able to get out until early afternoon due to rain and wind. Since Dempsey's was right down the road from the campground we decided to head there knowing it would be somewhat hidden from the winds. We pulled in a few fish with the Livescope and Active Target but nothing of notable size. On our last day of week 3, the winds allowed us to get back to our spot west of the Huron River. We pretty much picked up right where we left off on the first day as the fish were snapping. The average size was decent but not quite as good as a couple days prior. Unfortunately, we had to call it a day early as we had to make the 3-1/2 hour trek back home. The good thing was that we already had our plan for week 5 and that included getting the tea lights out for the planer boards. See you again in Week 5.
