Gopro Hyperview: great feature for dirt riders on Gopro 11 & 12 cams︱Cross Training Enduro

Is the Gopro Hyperview setting on Gopro 10 and 11 cameras a game changer for motorbike riders? Years ago, Gopro introduced 'Superview' in the Gopro 3 camera. It was brilliant for motorbike riders. Technically it is a 4:3 video that is stretched to 16:9. In practical terms, it means you see more of the top and bottom of the image. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. This is great for motorbike videos for several reasons. You see more of the handlebars for a more immersive experience. Getting the correct camera angle is not so critical. And finally, it contributes to a smoother visual experience. The main negative? The edges of the video image are highly compressed so objects like trees appear to be bent at the edges of the screen. This is barely noticeable for action shots. But for still shots you should select another camera angle. Gopro took this a step further with the Gopro 11 and 12 cameras. 'Hyperview' is like the old Superview on steroids. Technically the larger sensor is fully used to film at an 8:7 aspect. It is then digitally manipulated to 16:9. In practical terms, it means an even taller image. You can capture not only the handlebars, but more of the motorbike in each shot. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. Action cams are notoriously bad for making the speed look slower than it actually was. But the extra wide angle of Hyperview seems to correct this. My personal view is it actually looks close to the real experience. Also, if you use the Dango chin bar mount which is removeable, you can hold it high in the air while riding and get more of a drone-like feel to your footage. Drawbacks? There is so much bending at the far left and right that things get distorted. Also Hyperview is only available in certain resolutions and frame-rates because it needs to use the entire sensor. If you always use higher resolutions, there is no problem. But I have always just filmed at 1080p and 30 frames per second because my laptop can edit this easily. Also batteries last a lot longer. And finally I don't need a lot of storage for old footage. But I love the Hyperview setting so I will probably need to replace my old laptop when it bursts into flames trying to process these bigger files. Gopro cameras have certainly had their issues over the years. And at various points I think their competition were actually creating better cameras. But for motorbike riders, I think Hyperview is just one of several features that clearly puts Gopro at the top of the heap again in recent years. Have you used it? What do you think?
