Prelude and Postlude for February 15, 2025 (Last Sunday after the Epiphany)

0:00 Partita (Boeringer) 9:18 Last verse (Bairstow) This music for the last Sunday of Epiphany consists mainly of a partita (variations) on the classic hymn tune "Old Hundredth" which I played every service for eleven years as a doxology much like many other church organists. Apart from Boeringer's dates (1930-2014) and that he wrote ten organ partitas I can find no other biographical information on him at all. The partita has some more traditional variations and a few that are a bit out there (inversions, canons with odd intervals) but as it didn't end with as much of a bang as I had hoped, I have appended Bairstow's final verse of the hymn which is about as bombastic as it gets. If I had played that version as a doxology, I don't think ten of our choirs could have competed with the noise!
