0:00 I. Adagio 1:37 II. Allegro 3:40 III. Adagio 4:46 IV. Gavotta Either Loeillet (de Gant) or his publisher (more likely the latter), arranged six of his 48 sonatas for recorder and continuo as duets for two recorders, three each from the op. 1 and op. 2 sets. In these arrangements, the sonatas come across more as duets between two equal partners than accompanied solo sonatas where the keyboard and bass take a back seat, since the interplay between the two parts is emphasized by them being in the same octave. They are intermediate level pieces, though some of this is due to Loeillet's writing being so idiomatic. This sonata breaks with traditional form in that the last movement is a gavotte, neither a particularly fast dance nor a typical closing movement in dance suites. More often gavottes are paired like minuets, bourrées, and other such dances but putting one last elevates it to a certain extent and allows for a longer B-section than it might otherwise have. The first three movements are more usual: slow-fast-slow with some rather difficult figuration in the second movement mostly centered around the middle F, F#, and G which as recorder players know feel less stable because they only use one hand and two do not fully use the thumb.
