Hi guys you might obviously find this canal looks a bit familiar if you've been watching my channel for at least the last year previously. Being that I was delayed in filming the latter half of the Peak Forest Canal from Marple to Ashton, largely due to circumstances beyond my control, the result was that the last two segments turned out less summery - in fact especially in the case of the last segment - wintry. So yes , the 70 minutes across the two last quarters was somewhat tedious if not snowy at parts. And I of course was not prepared to cheat my subscribers.. So almost a year later, with the sun blaring out on one lovely September day in 2025 I set out with my camera once more and captured the highlights of the Lower Peak Forest Canal from Marple viaduct right up to the magnificent junction at Ashton Under Lyne. What is more, I managed to cramp all the classic landmarks of this timeless Canal into the space of just 23 minutes. Marple Aqueduct - Benjamin Outram's beautiful big bridge, the tallest narrowboat aqueduct in the country at nearly 100 feet Rosehill cutting - one time tunnel, now a tranquil trip amidst two long walls beneath the trees Hyde Bank Tunnel. Longest on the Cheshire ring network, with a width to accommodate two boats ..though no towpath Bank House Bridge - attractive brick structure widened to a short tunnel with the adjustment of the railway above. Woodley Tunnel - second longest on the canal with single barge width albeit a walkway incorporated. Trianon Mill - one of the largest surviving mills on the route towering gradually behind the trees. Active as recently as 2003 Hyde Moorings - selection of barges in different shapes, sizes and states plus historical switch bridge and warehouse slightly further ahead. Dukinfield Lift Bridge - only one of its type this side of Marple locks, in idyllic surrounds shortly and adjoining an attractive rear garden. Portland Basin - The big confluence of three canals, with Manchester and Huddersfield all connecting at Ashton Under Lyne, and it's impressive 1830s Warehouse building, now open as a museum. While also at it, I tried throwing in one or two little odds and ends that didn't even make the previous year's cut. Due to the unhealthy situation surrounding most of the canal system in the UK in the latter half of 2025, the sizeable amount of further canal trips I promised at the end of the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal trek will now not be forthcoming quite as hoped, the all been good I'll aim to explore the Ashton Canal amongst others early spring 2026 onwards. As I mentioned the other videos within, here are the previous documentations from late 2024 • Peak Forest Canal Pt 3 ( Marple to Wood... • Peak Forest Canal Pt 4 ( Woodley to Ash... #PeakForestCanal #LowerPeakForestCanal #Marple #MarpleAqueduct #RoseHill #HydeBankTunnel #Romiley #Woodley #WoodleyTunnel #UnityMill #TrianonMill #Hyde #HydeMoorings #WarbleWharf #Dukinfield #LiftBridge #PortlandBasin #PortlandBasinMarina #AshtonUnderLyne #AshtonWharf #WharfBuilding #CheshireRing
