In episode 17, Krysta and Traci talk about the topic of anxiety, which became a timely topic due to September being Suicide Prevention Month. Traci begins with a recap of the last episode on patterns, reading from Matthew 24, where Jesus discusses the persecution that His followers can expect because of our faith in Him, and she reminds listeners to focus their attention on things above (Colossians 3:1). The hosts launch the discussion about anxiety by highlighting that the U.S. has astonishingly high rates of anxiety compared to other regions of the world, including war-torn areas. The sisters address that anxiety is the result of ongoing fear or worry and can also arise out of traumatic experiences. As the sisters discuss their experiences with fear, worry, or anxiety, they explore the power of prayer and thanksgiving, taking our thoughts captive by seeking God first, and finding safety and restoration through communion with God and with other loving believers. Key Topics Include: • Examples from scripture, such as Daniel, who faced extreme adversary and oppression through faith in God. • Many people may not feel strong enough to face extreme difficulties, but the scriptures offer direction. • Worry steals life from our living, because it is impossible to be present when worrying about the future. • Prayer brings us into the safe space of our Heavenly Father. • Your mind cannot focus on two different things at the same time. Thus, we cannot focus on both God and our anxiety at once. • Finding safe people to pray over you is a great way to wage war against the enemy. • The Greek word used for anxiety or worry is marimnaoʹ, which means a tearing or dividing of the mind. • We must shift away from using coping mechanisms to Godly skillsets, including leaning on others who can shift our gaze to Him through prayer and Biblical counseling. • The world will send the message that there are patterns and strongholds that cannot be overcome, but the truth of God's word says that strongholds can be demolished. • It is important to remain mindful of the power we give to false beliefs about ourselves, and to be proactive by seeking first the kingdom of God. Scripture Verses and Resources Mentioned: (From the Complete Jewish Bible version) • Matthew 24: 9b – 10 "…and all peoples will hate you because of me. At that time many will be trapped into betraying and hating each other." • Colossians 3:1 If we were raised along with the Messiah, then seek the things above where the Messiah is sitting at the right hand of God. Focus your minds on the things above, not on things here on earth. • Philippians 4: 6 – 7 Don't worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. Then God's shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua. • 2 Corinthians 10: 3, 4 For although we do live in the world, we do not wage war in a worldly way; because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God's power for demolishing strongholds. • Matthew 6:25, 32 "Therefore, I tell you, don't worry about your life − what you will eat or drink; or about your body − what you will wear…For it is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need them all." • Sermon: Overcoming an Anxious Mind – Philippians 4: 6-7 – Skip Heitzig on YouTube ( • Overcoming an Anxious Mind - Philippians 4... ) . Listeners are encouraged to study more from the passages listed above, and to seek to know our God more through prayer and feasting on scripture. The sisters also invite listeners to reach out if they need specific prayer or support in this area. Traci and Krysta continue to pray for those who are listening to the podcast. They invite listeners to share feedback about this week's topic, submit new topics and questions, or to request prayer by visiting the website iamnotenough.us (https://www.iamnotenough.us) .
