STATS: Run Name: The "Y" (Mott Canyon) Gate Accessed: Gate #1 Rating: Double Black Diamond Lift Taken: Dipper Express Maximum Pitch: 41 degrees Length: 0.3 mi. Vertical Drop: 728 feet. DESCRIPTION: The "Y" is an extremely difficult double black diamond accessed via Gate 1 in Heavenly's famous and iconic "Mott Canyon". As of January 3, 2022, The "Y" is the most challenging run I've done (EDIT: This is no longer the case). The pitch is relentless and stays consistent pretty much throughout the entire run. I'm just starting to realize that I really begin to struggle with slopes above 40 degrees (hence why I slid down so much of the run!). This run is MUCH steeper than it looks and turning from left to right (my weaker side to turn on) was very difficult for me! Despite being well out of my league, I'm glad I attempted this run. The fall midway taught me how to put on my skis on unbelievably steep terrain (though that is cut from the video as it took way too long to figure out). Towards the end of the run, I was starting to get the hang of doing a slight jump into my turns to help me out. With some really helpful advice and kind encouragement from a fellow skier, I was able to get down and learn a lot. Overall, while I definitely struggled immensely on this one, I got down and learned a lot! I hope to come back and re-attempt this run hopefully with better technique to turn on steep terrain like this one!
