In this episode of Phlap, I’m at Pullenvale Forest Park, about a 30-minute drive west of Brisbane’s CBD. Tucked away on Pullenvale Road, the entrance is easy to miss — just a small, single driveway on the left that isn’t clearly marked. If you’re visiting for the first time, slow down as you approach and indicate early. Also, if you’re using eBird for directions, be aware it may guide you to the centre of the park rather than the actual entrance. There’s a small picnic area near the start with a few tables and chairs, but no toilets or barbecues. Three walking tracks begin at the same point before branching off, including a boardwalk loop and two dirt paths. I chose the boardwalk, which takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace. Birdlife was fairly typical of an urban bushland setting — plenty of Lewin’s Honeyeaters, Grey Shrikethrush, the distant call of Eastern Whipbirds, and a small group of Variegated Fairywrens. Nothing spectacular on this visit, despite the park having a respectable species list overall. If you’re nearby, it’s a pleasant enough stroll, but not somewhere I’d travel out of my way to visit. Recorded on the 23rd of May, 2024 I didn't realise it was such an old recording until I had nearly finished, so I decided to post it anyway. I doubt if anything has changed since the recording date. I have been there a few times over the years. eBird List: https://ebird.org/checklist/S176441678 Check out other birding locations we have visited at https://tinyurl.com/Birdsphlap Check out our other social media pages Facebook: / birdsphlap Instagram: / phlapphotography
