Laos farmers and their families are being encouraged to eat more beetles and other protein to help tackle the country's large malnutrition problem. One third of children under 5 are stunted, even more in rural areas. The 2024 report the State of food security and Nutrition report identifies 75% of the population who are unable to afford a healthy diet. IFAD, with a grant from GAFSP, and the Government of Laos, fund the AFN II project, which supports Farmer Nutrition schools. These schools teach mothers how to improve their children’s diets. So far, the Agriculture for Nutrition Project ( AFNII) have been set up in 400 villages offering nutrition learning modules to over 22,000 participants, of which 95% are women. #nutrition #Nutrition for Growth #Laos #ifad The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries.
