Day 7 Locations: Vector, Magitek Factory Steps Taken: 14,618 Playtime: 30 minutes Total Playtime: 6:31 Characters: Gau (L7) Edgar (L6) Locke (L5) Celes (L5) The sound quality is a little poor, I think from different rendering settings. Also, mind the "auto dubbing" YT stupidly put on this video which could be partially why, causing words like "oh!" or "stop!" to happen sometimes when an encounter begins. I turned this feature off, hopefully it stops, but according to some research, this is a bug that hasn't been fixed yet. Also, excuse the cut at 25:46, like 20 seconds passed because I had to blow my nose really bad. Went to the only place I could for today: The Magitek Factory. This is my favorite part of the game, although when I'm running from everything, not quite as much, but regardless, this is maybe my favorite song in the game. I did wander around Vector a little, even finding out some of Kefka's backstory from a guy in the cafe. Why Square decided to only give any backstory about Kefka losing his mind after being the 1st person infused with magic to some random NPC that's only there once in the game, I'll never know. Anyway, it was a simple day, but I was feeling too unwell to do the mine cart ride and Number 128, which I'm sure I'll die to several times and have to edit them all out. Hopefully I'll keep the good RNG from dying instead of having to reset each time, which wouldn't count towards time played for the day. The Cranes are something way more worrisome, and I really should've just grabbed that Thunder Rod from South Figaro cave to cheese the left one. Only 1 Wall Ring is also a bit strange. Oh, Albrook sold them... At least Carbunkle should have use. In any case, the RNG manipulation I did to get the least experience should work in my favor somewhat, but I DEFINITELY should've bought more Fenix Downs, especially when I have to kill 2 party members on the 2nd mine cart battle, revive only Locke on the 3rd and then I can do the last 2 with all 4 members alive. I really can't see 5 Fenix Downs lasting me too well here, so I really wish I'd grabbed more. I'll have to use 2 before the battle even starts, and there's no Runic to save me from 128s magic either. The Cranes should go down without too much trouble if they leave Gau alone and if he uses Aqua Rake more than punching. So, I made my way into the factory, again running from every encounter. I made sure to steal quite a few tents from Commandos though. This prevented me from needing to waste some Fenix Downs at savepoints. I did accidentally get on the conveyor belt and see the scene with Kefka earlier than expected since my thumb sort of slipped. Usually I trigger this before battling Ifrit & Shiva, but it's no big deal. I grabbed all of the treasures, including the hard to miss Blizzard and Zephyr Cape. Once that was all set, I went after Ifrit & Shiva, which I surprisingly won my 1st try without a full party Blaze attack which you can't Runic and kills everyone. That's the only thing actually dangerous; it's otherwise not a hard battle. I put Dragoon Boots on Locke because I wanted 1 other person to be able to survive a possible full party Blaze. Celes stayed on Runic duty, and Gau was in no danger as long as he stayed in the Bomb rage, which absorbs fire. After Ifrit gets hit 5 times, whether he takes damage or none, it switches to Shiva. I almost had her before she switched. Attacked Ifrit 5 times again and Shiva returned; 1 more Blaze did it, but a drill would too. So with that, they gave over their lives as Magicite shards. I made my way upstairs and into the test tube room. Grabbed the hidden Break Blade and battled Number 024, the infamously useless robot pirate. Forgot to put strength relics on Gau for Stray Cat oddly enough, so it did not much damage. Stole his Rune Edge off the bat, which will be good for more GP. He's wildly unpredictable but still piss easy even at this level. I was getting annoyed by Edgar repeatedly going Jason Vorhees though. This was just an odd battle, not exactly hard, but a bit annoying. He can rarely use some dangerous attacks, emphasis on rare. At one point he just glitches out and scans himself. The reason I put Celes as my party lead before the battle was to manipulate the Magna Roader RNG to give me the least experience points, allowing for the 1st character slot to be empty. Grabbed the boatload of Magicite from the next room and then Kefka shows up, leaving Celes the only way to get him out. Escaped down the elevator with Cid and took my sweet time on equips until 30 minutes had passed, I was too sick to go on. Thus ending week 1 of the challenge.
