This part of the Friends’ charter "Tanglefoot Curve to Sublette”, features oil fired K-36, locomotive #487 handling the 21 car and caboose freight train drifting down grade to Antonito. I chased the Friends’ Fall Photo Charter, getting panoramic views, great sounds (including whistles, stack talk) and scenes others didn't get! After a run-by at Tanglefoot Curve for charter participants, I got ahead of the freight train and captured the charter on both sides of the Los Pinos Valley. I arrived late at Osier only to catch the charter hidden and leaving. At Sublette the coal burning locomotive #488, running light ahead of the charter stops for some lube and inspection. The Friend's Charter arrives for a (quick, 4x speed) water stop, lube and inspection and departs. Last long shot is just east of Sublette. This Friends' Charter commemorated 100 years of K-36’s steaming over Cumbres Pass. Wearing Rio Grande lettering and using freight cars restored by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec, that created an accurate and historic portrayal of a 1940s freight train.
