In "Cumbres to Tanglefoot Curve, Part 2” I recorded the Friends’ Fall Photo Charter. Great Sounds including whistles, stack talk, wheel slip, rod clank, slack action, wheels squealing and more. Once on top of the pass, locomotive #488 pushing ahead of the cabooses (Rule) as far as Cumbres Pass, cut loose and dropped a caboose on the main and another on the siding. The #488 became the road engine and #487 ran light just ahead of the charter. Engineers also switched locomotives. A run-by was staged at Tanglefoot Curve for charter participants. The Friends’ charter featured two K-36 locomotives, coal fired #487 on the front and oil fired #488 on the rear. Working together they push and pull the 21 car and 2 caboose freight train up the 4% grade to Cumbres Pass. (See Part 1, • Cumbres & Toltec Friends’ Fall Photo Chart... ). This Friends' Charter commemorated 100 years of K-36’s steaming over Cumbres Pass. Wearing Rio Grande lettering and using freight cars restored by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec, that created an accurate and historic portrayal of a 1940s freight train. Part 3, ( • Cumbres & Toltec Friends’ Fall Photo Chart... ) includes the chase from Tanglefoot Curve to Sublette and scenes others didn't get!
