After playing around on single pitch and a few short sport routes, it was time to test my systems and myself on a long trad route. Generosity was the perfect candidate. It is an exam route from my ACMG Apprentice Rock Exam, it is long, reportedly has good gear, had recently been retro bolted by Greg Barrett (thanks!) so it had good anchors for me to work off and, perhaps most critically, it was easily accessible from my homeless camp just outside of Canmore via hitchhiking :D So out I went with the plan of free soloing the easy stuff with my 35lbs of gear and rope soloing the more sustained pitches. After a stint of being disappointed by partners cancelling on me, being disorganized or down right disrespectful, it was time to prove to myself that I do not need anyone to climb with... This was the beginning of a month+ long campaign of me crushing classic Rockies trad and sport routes. This self-reliance enabled me to hit all my pre-exam objectives and amass around 600 pitches this past summer. The idea for this video was to show a kind of work flow for rope solo multi pitch climbing. I highlight choices I made along the way to improve the efficiency of my vertical progress. Comment below if you would like more content like this showing how I rope solo. I think multi pitch rope solo trad systems get glossed over a lot but moving fast is possible with good decision making.
