In the ninth message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard turns our attention to John 3:1–21 and one of the most profound conversations in all of Scripture — Jesus’ late-night encounter with Nicodemus. As a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council, Nicodemus comes to Jesus seeking clarity. He recognizes that something about Jesus is from God, yet he struggles to understand what it all means. In response, Jesus introduces a truth that challenges everything Nicodemus thought he knew: “You must be born again.” This message explores the difference between “bios” life and “zoe” life — between the temporary, earthly life we are born into and the eternal, Spirit-filled life that comes only from above. Pastor Richard walks us through what it truly means to be “born again,” not as a religious milestone or outward achievement, but as a transforming work of God that gives us a new heart and a new Spirit. Drawing connections to the Old Testament and Jesus’ reference to Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness, this sermon reveals how confusion often becomes the doorway to deeper faith. Sometimes our questions are not barriers to belief, but invitations to step further into truth. At the heart of this passage is one of the most beloved promises in Scripture — John 3:16–21 — where we are reminded that God’s mission was never condemnation, but salvation. Light has come into the world, yet we are faced with a choice: remain in the darkness, or step into the light. As we continue our journey through the Gospel of John, we are challenged to examine our own hearts. Are we willing to move beyond excuses and misunderstandings? Are we ready to let God replace what is old with something entirely new? Join us as we discover the clarity Jesus brings, the life He offers, and the courage it takes to step into the light.
