In the tenth message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard turns our attention to John 3:25–30 and the powerful declaration from John the Baptist: “He must become greater; I must become less.” As questions and arguments begin to rise among John’s disciples about Jesus’ growing influence, we see a striking contrast between human instinct and Kingdom perspective. While others worry about losing recognition, power, or influence, John responds with humility and joy. He understands that everything he has received—his calling, his ministry, and his impact—has come from God, and that his purpose has always been to point others to Christ. This message explores the deep struggle that exists within all of us: the desire to remain in control. From the story of humanity in Genesis to the words of Paul in Romans, Scripture reveals a consistent tension between our old selves and the new life God is forming within us. Too often, we approach faith as though following Jesus is simply one more thing to add to an already full life. But the invitation of the Gospel is far greater than that. Pastor Richard reminds us that the Christian life is not about squeezing Jesus into our schedules or managing our own transformation. Instead, it is about surrender—allowing God to continue the work He began in us and learning to live with Christ at the center. Through the example of John the Baptist, we are given a simple yet life-changing perspective: true joy, peace, and purpose are found when we stop trying to be the center of our own story and allow Jesus to take His rightful place. Join us as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John — learning to trust God’s work in our lives, surrender control, and discover the freedom that comes when Christ becomes greater and we become less.
