Shout out to Embodme for sending their new ERAE Touch! Alright now for the patch note! As you can see the setup is a lot lighter than usual and that’s because I completely changed my workflow in this oneee. I had some background noise issues with my usual looper so I decided to try Ableton Live as my live-looping platform. Since I was using Ableton I also decided to use it for synth, hence the lack of hardware compare to my previous jams. For a long-long time I had that mental rule of making all the music happen within my machines but honestly it felt pretty good to just let go of all that. I have the whole Arturia V Collection so it’s pretty nice being able to have all those sound available. I can’t say I’m 100% seduced by Ableton for live-looping as there are some limitations compared to the Aeros loop studio but overall the experience was pretty fun! As you can see the Digitakt is still here standing. I used it as a sampler for all the drums as well as a sequencer for the virtual instruments. Those two VSTs are the ones you can hear in the intro, the Rhodes is the Stage-73 and the bleepy synth was made with the OB-Xa, both from Arturia. I could have bypass the Digitakt entirely and trigger/sequence everything inside Ableton but I’m super used to the Digitakt for programming and sound design. Also it was super handy to have all the track mute buttons available on it. The Microcosm is processing the guitar as well as some of the drum element. Now let’s talk about the ERAE Touch from Embodme! It’s a pressure-sensitive MIDI controller and it’s completely customizable. You can create the perfect layout by placing modules around (keyboards, drumpads, sliders, etc.) with the companion software. In this case I use it to control pretty much everything : the drums from the Digitakt, the synth from Ableton and the audio clips I’m using to loop the guitar and the bass. It really feels amazing to play, the keyboard takes a bit of time getting used to but it’s absolutely perfect for drums! I barely scratched the surface in this jam and stuck to basic functions but the ERAE Touch is feature-packed and I can’t wait to explore its expressive side a bit more. Most elements were recorded onto separate tracks and I mixed the whole thing inside Logic Pro X (yeah I didn’t feel like mixing in Ableton). I added some reverb/delay and I mastered the result with Izotope Ozone 9. I also did some timing edits.
